Axis Bank USD Travel Cards - A really bad product

I had to travel for a short 3 month trip to the US. Our company Capgemini tied up with Axis bank for providing USD Travel Cards for meeting our day to day expenses in the US.

For those who do not know what's a cash card, imagine it as a Debit card which can be used at any merchant establishment which accepts VISA cards. The company initially deposits a certain amount of money up front in the card which can then be used. Once the money exhausts, additional money can be added. This makes the travelers life easy coz' he then does not need to carry a lot of currency with him.

Axis card provides such cash cards as one of their products. However, these cash cards are almost useless and incur a lot of loss to people who've bought these.

Firstly, whenever you use them at any of the ATM's a charge of $3 is charged. Whether you withdraw $20 or $200 the charge remains constant.

Secondly, most people would generally do online shopping when they visit the US since you get better deals online. These cash cards do not work online since they do not have the concept of a "Billing Address" and "Security Code", which are normally present on any VISA cards. This shortcoming makes this product really useless.

Thirdly, guess what? $1 charge if you need to change your ATM password! Yup, you read it right. If you forgot your ATM password and need to reset it, they happily charge you $1 to do that. Have you heard any service charging you $1 for changing the password on their cards? This is ridiculous and outrageous.

Fourthly, their web interface is really user unfriendly. When you try to register they take you to a site called iconnect, which is the name for their core banking website and it asks for a "Corporate Id" for the login. When asked to their Customer Service execs they say that we have no idea about the iconnect. It's supposed to be used internally by the bank employees!! Frustrating to the core, isn't it?

I'd really advise anybody to carefully choose a Travel Card product and save themselves all the hassles mentioned above. Pls evaluate all the products out there before making your choice.

I am trying to buy online but AXIS is turning down the request to purchase, What is the workaround for this nonsense of not allowing online transaction in US. Should we check with some one who owns a different card and transfer amount to their card?

Really annoying since it doesnt allow online transaction.

What ever I have written is after having communicated with the Axis bank customer Service.

Please save the sarcasm for yourselves since you are the only one claiming that the service is exceptional.

If you really have the time to comment on the post over and over again, why not just give answers to all the queries yourselves or oteherwise shut your mouth up?

Hi,
I have tried atleast 4 different travel cards and they are all pretty similar when it comes to transaction charges, reloading, etc. The only travel card that can be used for online transactions is ICICI Travel card as of now.
Good luck and stop cribbing-we dont live in a perfect world so plz dont expect perfection!

Asking for basic services is a fundamental right. It has nothing to do with Perfection.

i totally agree with Harshal.. the product is an absolute waste..
there are charges per each ATm transaction and online shopping is just a joke..

the guys who were talking about "education" the bacnk gave such a big bunch of documents ..why don;t they educate in that.. and for guys who said call them up and talk.. i did that.
waited for 10 and the line got disconnected...
so 10mins air charges on my cell, and 10 mins calling card charges.. do i really need this..

for the bank making things so complicated .... i even wonder if people who called the bankare able to do any online transactions... because nowhere in the posts i read a solution..

i am now using a workaround.. go to any shopping center and get the AMEX gift card by paying some 4-5$ for some $200 card.. and then using that online..

axis bacnk is such a waste...

anyone who doesn't agree step forward...

I know A-Z about this card.. It cant be used online is clearly written in terms and conditions. What a shit. Transaction charges at ATM is obvious since we dont have Axis ATMs in US. however my company reimburses them to me.

Does anybody has any idea of what commission they charge when we encash those dollars to rupees after coming back to IND ?

The worst travel card I have ever used, please go for any other card.....

Few Cents from myside. I have used this card recently. About the ATM charges in US. This is fine because it is applicable to all type of cards in US ( whether it is travel or local card). We are use to get free services in India on ATM ( Thanks to RBI).

Further Online usage is available on few sites ( I have used on Madame Tusad Site and got discount) because it accepts international card. But most of the website are accepting US card and billing details. So in this case, problem lies with website not with the bank.

Further about the Address, Pwd and other things. I have used My company address, few other details ( instruction provided by website itself). So we cannot blame to product on these items.

Thanks
Pradeep

I am fully agree with Harsh. This product is really useless. I mailed to Axis customer care and they said you can use your residence address as Billing address. When I called customer care, they replied - "no site should ask for Billing address, if they are asking, these are not updated site". Moreover, he said, you can not use this card on these sites. Just a waste of money to buy this card. I am sure that I am not going to use it again in my next travel.
Rental company, Hotel etc doesn't block your reservation as it doesn't have your name on this card. It is just a bad product with very little usage.

I am suffering due to this axis card. I cannot use this card to buy airline tickets online to travel inside US. Due to this I have to ask my friends to book the tickets/do online transactions and then pay them in cash.Customer service is hopeless. Their website is also poor. Cannot get a statement in PDF(only in text file).

Absolutely agree with the other commenters and the OP - worthless product, WORSE customer service!
